Photo 1: "Traditional Italian Dinner"

This picture has so much history of the Scannavino family. At the head of table is Giovanni Scannavino and it is his birthday that is being celebrated. My grandmother is the little girl. She is sitting on her godfather's lap. The house address is 516 59th Street, West New York, NJ. This is how true Sicilian families spent every sunday and how they had dinner together. The little things back then pleased them so much, and we don't see the dedication towards family anymore.

  1. I am also Sicilian, and love the culture, I have been tracing back my family history for over 20 years. We also were raised the traditional way and to this day we celebrate Easter the way my nonna did, she taught me how to make Scotcha and lamb pie so I continue to do this every year and have now passed it on to my children so the tradition will not fade. I will not give anyone my family receipts either. I have told my children that they are not to give away are family secrets they are just to be passed down from one generation to the next. I am glad that your family does the same.
